The employee app is optimized for use on employees' private devices. This is often referred to the abbreviation BYOD.
What does BYOD mean?
The trend BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) means that users utilize their own end device (smartphone, tablet, laptop) in the professional, school or even official environment.
However, works councils and IT security officers often become wary regarding company software on employees' private smartphones. Concerns such as employee surveillance, security risks, interference with the work-life balance of employees or the threat to uniform IT arise.
Reasons for using the BYOD concept
However, these concerns are unfounded and there are many advantages that the BYOD concept offers:
1. Familiar hardware
Employees only need one device and less equipment such as charging cables for their daily work and private activities. Therefore, employees can benefit from the familiar user experience of their own hardware. There is no need to learn how to use a different type of device.
2. No additional work for the IT department
Additional support effort for additional end devices by IT staff is eliminated. Likewise, high costs for the purchase of new company devices for each individual are not required. In order to comply with data protection, Flip's employee app meets special requirements such as hosting in German data centers with ISO 27001 certification, encryption of messages, and special protection of system data.
3. Link to non-desk workers
Especially the so-called "non-desk workers" in the areas production, warehousing, care or even field service, who do not have a (fixed) desk, no end devices and often not even their own e-mail address, are usually not fully integrated into the corporate communication of their company. Communication tools with a BYOD concept can help in this case and serve as a link for communication between all employees on equal level.
4. Modern flexibility and mobility in the workplace
Numerous companies have declared maximum efficiency through mobility and standardized communication solutions to be their core objectives in order to gain a decisive time and cost advantage in daily competition. The BYOD concept is one of the most important components in this philosophy and reflects modern flexibility in the workplace.
5. High efficiency through offline-first
Both employees and decision-makers in the company benefit from constantly low data consumption, which is achieved through caching, i.e. a buffer memory that enables fast access without time-consuming recalculations. A modern offline-first approach also contributes to low data rates and is also an important criterion for the popularity and usage rate of a modern employee app, since basic functions are accessible even without a permanent Internet connection. For example, users can read and create posts. As soon as an Internet connection is available again, previously created posts are published.
6. No interference with work-life balance
Although the BYOD approach enables permanent availability through a mobile work environment, concerns that employees' work-life balance could be jeopardized are unfounded. The prerequisites are a clear structure and internal company guidelines for the use of the communication tool. In addition, push notifications can be deactivated to ensure that employees are not disturbed in their free time.
